William bought land between Robertson's creek ( which is a branch of Hall's and flows somewhere south of the university) and St. George Street from Church to Highfield. At one time he had a large farm along Mountain Road. Page 71. William Jr. became stationmaster when the railway came to town and before that, in 1849, his son Joseph was born.

Of congestion of the lungs, at his residence, Mountain Road, Moncton, 29th Jan., William STEADMAN, age 61, deacon of 1st Baptist Church, which office he filled up until the time of his death, being present and assisted at the Lord's Supper the 1st Sabbath of the month in which he was called to the communion of the Church triumphant. He leaves a sorrowing widow who is very ill, six children. His burial services took place at 2 p.m. 31st. (see original)
