Joseph Place was born in 1665 at Kingstown, Washington County, RI.
He married Joannah Place, daughter of John Place and Sarah Lovering, on 9 Nov 1698.
On 6 Sep 1687 at Kingstown, Washington County, RI, Joseph Place assessed 1 shilling for pole money, listed between William Cole and Samuel Sweete (NEHGR, Volume 35 (Apr 1881), page 126.).
He and Nathaniel Niles and John Smith witnessed a deed whereby Moses Barber was given the liberty to improve 350 acres for £30 by the Pettyquamscutt Purchasers on 22 Aug 1693 at Kingstown, Washington County, RI (South Kingstown, Rhode Island, Volume 2 (old), page 26.).
He was involved in a land transaction and Nathaniel Niles appeared to acknowledge the transaction of 22 Aug 1693 on 24 Jun 1698 at Kingstown, Washington County, RI (Ibid.).
He sold 3 acres to James Bundy, cooper, for £8; bounded on South by Jehabod Sheffield, on West by Thomas Mumford, on East by highway; signed solely by Joseph Place and witnessed by Rouse Helme and Sarah Helme on 2 Jul 1715 at Kingstown, Washington County, RI (Ibid., Volume 3a, page 112.).
On 14 Feb 1715/16 at Kingstown, Washington County, RI, his land was mentioned as a bound when Hannah Wilbour sold 300 acres to Samuel Clarke of Portsmouth (Beaman, "Rhode Island Genealogical Register", Volume 7, page 59 from SK LE Vol 3 p 254-7.).
On 16 Mar 1716/17 at Kingstown, Washington County, RI, Joseph Place sold to Daniel Macoone 100 acres for £350; described as "my now dwelling house and land"; bounded on North by Brenton, on East by Samuel Clarke, on West by highway and partly Brenton; signed by Joseph and Joanna Place and witnessed by William Robinson and Joseph Kinyon. He reserved 3 rods square as the burying place of his father Enoch Place, thus, this would seem to be Enoch's original farm (South Kingstown, Rhode Island, Volume 3a, page 227.).
Christopher Allen affirmed that Joseph, Joanna, and the family had left the property on 9 Apr 1717 at Kingstown, Washington County, RI (Ibid.).
He was admitted free on 30 Oct 1720 at Providence, Providence County, RI (Records of the Colony, Volume 4, page 290.).
On 11 Feb 1730/31 at Providence, Providence County, RI, Joseph Place testified that a certain tract of land in South Kingstown had been in the possession and improvement of James Bundy and George Mumford for 22 years; this looks to be the same land he sold on 2 Jul 1715 (Beaman, "Rhode Island Genealogical Register", Volume 11, page 253 from SK LE 1723-1735 p 371).
