  Notes	[1551424.ged] 1/24/99 SIMON BRANCH ( -- 1614) ALICE STOOKES The earliest authentic record of the BRANCH family dates back to 1500 but their are many facts that prove the families existed four centuries earlier. The name was originally spelled BRANCHE.Tradition has it that the family descended from a Norman Knight Also early records indicate that a BRANCH was with William the Conqueror at Hastings in 1066 and is so recorded in the Roll of the Battle Abbey. The BRANCH family of New England is descended from Richard Branch,a woolen drapper,settled in Abingdon-on-Thames,Berkshire England during the early part of the 16th century. He was a man of considerable importance being for many years head of The Fraternity of the Holy Cross (for more details see Branch in Abingdon 32-37) His wife was Elizabeth Beauforest. Richard Branch was born prior to 1500 and died around 1544 1585 SYMON BRANCHE married ALICE STOOKES on June 6th. She married 2nd a Edward Hasleman. 1614 SIMON made his will on 20 May which was proved November 7th. He was buried at Halden,Kent,Eng. on October 8th. (from parish registar) 1619 ALICE was living at Halden with her 2nd husband Edward Haslemar. Daughter Susan will was proved 25 May mentions brother PETER of Nettlested.
