Miss Ethel M. Steadman.
Miss Ethel May Steadman, a highly respected resident of this city for the past eighteen years, and during practically all of that time, an active worker in the Sunday School and the missionary enterprises of the West Somerville Baptist Church, died on Saturday evening at her home, 89 Josephine avenue, following a month's serious illness.
Miss Steadman was born in St. John, New Brunswick, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John F. Steadman, and after receiving her education came here when a young woman. For more than twenty years she was employed on the Boston Evening Transcript in the composing and proofrooms, and was held in high esteem by all of the employees. For a number of years she resided on Spencer avenue, moving last June to Josephine avenue.
She is survived by two sisters, Miss, Hazel C. Steadman, of this city, and Mrs. Albert L. Coffin, of Hampton, N. H., and also by two half sisters, Miss Alice M. Steadman and Mrs. J. W. Kaye, of Moncton, N. B.
The funeral took place on Tuesday morning with services at her late home. Rev. Frank M. Swaffield, pastor of the West Somerville Baptist Church, officiated. Mr. Whittaker, the first tenor, and Mr. Redden, the second tenor of the Apollo Quartette, rendered three selections, "All the Way My Saviour Leads Me," "Face to Face," and "Jesus, I the Very Thought of Thee." Interment was in Hampton, N.H., on Tuesday afternoon, and committal services were conducted at the grave by Rev. Mr. Swaffield.
