By the death of Henry HORTON which took place at his residence Hampton (Kings Co.) a respected citizen was lost to the community. He was a native of Yorkshire, England and came to this country when 7 years of age. He learned the saddlery business as an apprentice to David COLLINS and 35 years ago started in that line of trade on Union St., Saint John. At one time he was largely interested in shipping and real estate and for a period was connected with the insurance business. After the fire of (June 20) 1877, Mr. Horton took up his residence in Hampton where he has since lived. In July last, George A. HORTON, a son of the deceased, was taken into partnership and the firm has since been known as Henry Horton & Son. He left a wife and four children.

It was heard with regret yesterday that Henry HORTON, for 35 years doing business in this city, had died at Hampton (Kings Co.) at 4 o'clock in the morn. after a short illness. He died from inflammation of the bowels. Deceased was a native of Yorkshire, England and came to the country 53 years ago, 18 of which he carried the saddlery hardware business. Mr. Horton leaves a wife and four children. Three daughters and one son. One of the deceased's daughters, Miss Florence HORTON was in Boston visiting her sister, Mrs. WHITNEY when she received the telegram announcing her father's dangerous illness. She immediately left home arriving just five hours after her father's death.
