    • MADISON -- Doris Ann (Matthews) Perkins passed away on Aug. 31, 2010, at Maplecrest Rehabilitation and Living Center in Madison, where she had been a resident for the past 51/2 years. She was born April 2, 1923, daughter of Roy T. and Elva (Scott) Matthews.

Doris graduated from Madison Memorial High School, class of 1941. She was involved in drama and loved English. Upon graduating, she was treated to a trip to Washington, D.C. which was very memorable for her.

After high school, she worked for a time for Beaver Wood Products in North Anson. She married Donald L. Perkins on June 12, 1943, and later worked in the family business (Donald Perkins Machine Shop) until the birth of her daughter, Penelope, in 1954.

Doris lived a very full life and had many happy memories and accomplishments. Most of her life was spent being a wife and mother. She was the neighborhood school taxi for all the kids when the weather was bad and volunteered to be an assistant Girl Scout leader for her daughter's troop.

She belonged to many organizations in Madison, including the Madison Womens Club, Euclid Order of Eastern Star (a past matron of that order). She was also a member of the Womens Association of the Congregational Church in Madison. She was always a very active member and served in all capacities in anything in which she was involved.

She loved to play bridge and did so weekly for many years. She also loved to cook, knit, and do ceramics and crafts. Snowmobiling, skiing, golf and camping were enjoyed as well. In her later years, reading, sports and nature were great pastimes. Many great hours were spent at the family camp on Embden Pond. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandsons, Derek and Timothy.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband in October 2006; brothers Phillip, Ralph and Rudolph Matthews and their wives, Fran, Alma, and Ester; sisters Alma and Fostina Matthews; nephews Scott and Gene Matthews; sisters-in-law Erva Harding, Irma Low and Jennie Perkins; and brother-in-law Elwood Perkins.

Survivors include, her daughter, Penelope and her husband, Russell Denis, of Skowhegan; two grandsons, Derek and Timothy Kyes; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2010, at Forest Hills Cemetery in Madison. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Maplecrest Activities Fund in care of Betsey Wacome, 174 Main St. Madison, Me. 04950.

A special thank you to all of the staff at Maplecrest, Beacon Hospice and Dr. Melody Pratt for their care, compassion and friendship through this journey. You have become like family and my mother loved you all.

Arrangements are being handled by Giberson Funeral Home, 40 Maple St., Madison.
