Passed on: May 2nd, 2010
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother on Sunday, May 2nd at Colonel By Retirement Residence in Ottawa. She was in her 97th year. Born in Baie Verte, New Brunswick, Dora was the oldest of 10 children born to James Goodwin Scott and Gertrude Belden. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Rev. J.E. Munson (United Church of Canada) who passed away in 2003. They enjoyed over 60 years together. She is survived by son David (Sharon), Vancouver, son Jim (Ginette), Ottawa, and daughter Mary (David), Halifax. Also surviving are four
grandchildren, Scott, Suzanne, James (Jamie) and Claude, and two great grandchildren, Carter and Emma. She also leaves sisters Emma, Carrie and Eileen, brothers Burris, Vaughan and James Edward. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by infant grandson Timothy, brothers Joseph and Ralph, sister Evelyn and daughter-in-law Janet. Dora graduated from the New Brunswick Teachers' College and prior to
her marriage taught school in that province. During her husband's long ministry in New Brunswick and Montreal, she was active in many church organizations. She was a life member of the UCW and also a long time member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Fort Moncton, Chapter No. 11. She loved a great game of Scrabble, she stayed on top of the news and she enjoyed a good read. She was also a big fan of Hockey Night in Canada. We give our sincere thanks to the management, nurses, staff and Dr. Ian Warrack at Colonel By Retirement Residence. You have given real meaning to the words, care, compassion and most importantly, love.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held in the chapel of the Drew Nursing Home in Sackville, New Brunswick on Saturday, May 8th at 11 a.m. Her ashes will be interred beside those of her husband in Alma, New Brunswick later the same day. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to St. Columba House in Montreal or St. James United Church in Baie Verte, c/o James Edward Scott, 91 Main Street, Baie Verte, NB E4M 1J4.
